Sometimes just handing a dollar to a homeless person does not make much of a difference, but it can help with giving them some food for that day. The biggest challenge with the homeless is that you cannot help them as a group, because their problems are not the same and the solution you have will not work on every homeless person. If you decide on the long term solution, you need to focus on other areas like helping the homeless and addicted people to overcome this addiction. You also get the homeless emotional and psychological help, family, and career counseling help. So when you are finding the long term solutions for the homeless person, you empower then economically so that you get them off the streets, but also helping them to deal with the mental problems so that they do not end up in the streets again.

Most people can only afford the short term fix, and there are different ways that you can assist them with their everyday issues. These problems will be the right solutions to help the homeless survive in the street. Some of the guidelines that can help you to help the homeless that you see on the streets include, for starters, avoid giving cash to the homeless. If you truly want to give or donate money, then take the money to the homeless shelter that takes care of the homeless people. Take, for example, if you give money to a homeless person who is out there because of addiction to drugs or alcohol. Then you will facilitate them to go and buy more drugs, which makes the situation even worse. If the homeless person asks you for money to buy food or beverage, buy them yourself and give it to them.

Take your time and talk to the homeless person, in a respectful, and a friendly manner, this is important because it gives the homeless person a great sense of courtesy and dignity. You give them hope and the strength to fight and stay strong despite their state of isolation, depression, and suspicion being some of the challenges that these people make. By being friendly, you make their days much better.
